"I was a bit sceptical about purchasing these speakers, especially without being able to audition them first. Now, after they've broken in and opened up a little bit I can actually say - terrific sound! We live in a real world, and in a real world you get what you pay for. Fluance AV-HTB just might be one of those rare exceptions out of this rule. Overall built quality of these speakers is pretty good, but when you consider the price it's not just good, it's great. Finish is a bit odd looking, but it's decor-friendly. I could not help myself to take a look inside one of the surround speakers. Inside is layered with foam, drivers have a good size magnets and a crossover has a respectable looking coil . . . Great home theater sound, smooth highs, good dynamic range."

"I set out to spend around $1500 for my home theater system. I know i was not going to be able to buy high quality upper end system. But I did not want to by junk either. I found Fluance. I was very skeptical of buying a complete home theater system for only $200 . . . I was concerned I would get the box and would not play, sound like crap or be empty. But to my surprise. this system is great, for the money. I am a casual music listener and my wife and I are avid movie buffs. This system reproduces movie sound awsome. I do not have a sub yet, but the bass is deep enough to enjoy the movie, however, I will add a sub. Build quality is good . . . Speakers have rubber surround and are poly coated. Seem to be tough. I have cranked the front towers and the music is distortion free and clear. As far as an entry level set up, you can NOT go wrong with Fluance . . . I ordered on a Friday and them @ my house by Monday."

"As a reply with ownership of these too good to believe Fluance speakers, I was shocked at how good these speaks sounded. Expecting the worse, I was suprised to see MDF cabinets, decent drivers and a pretty darn good tweet. Crossovers where much better than would have been expected. A place always skimped on in the low end market. At their price point, 199.99 for a center, mains, and surrounds, a steal for what you get! But for an entry level set up, they impressed the #$%! out of me. I was really suprised . . . these will definitly do the job (and much better than one would think) . . . I would agree that they easily compete with speaker packages up to 600.00 or so. Yes hard to belive! They where ordered direct from them, and all went well arriving undamaged and on time. Are they worth 199.99 yes for sure!"

"First let me start by saying that this is my first review. Everything I say is purely subjective and is my personal opinion. There are no measurements or specs . . . Ordering them was simple as with most net purchases. They arrived quickly . . . they were very well packed in one box . . . My initial impressions still hold. The speakers are hefty and seem to be well constructed. They are made of 1/2" thick MDF type material that has a woodgrain pattern on the outside. They are all black with snug fitting removable black speaker grills. The front edge of all five speakers has a little bevel so they don't just look like plain boxes . . . I connected them to a Kenwood VR-507 receiver, a Panasonic A-120 DVD player and a Mitsubishi CS-35805 35" TV . . . Okay, so how do they sound? Not bad, not bad at all. At first they seemed quite thin, but now that they've been played a bit and have started to break in they are really warming up. It has definitely taken some playing time to get them loosened up and the sound has definitely changed over time . . . They seem very clear, not muddy. Dialog is easily understandable . . . the center blends with the mains well . . . I found it very important to tilt the center down so it's axis is even with your ears. This really helped the clarity and should be done with any center speaker, not just the Fluance. The mains make a surprising amount of bass for what they are. In The Matrix you can clearly hear the low bass when Morpheus breaks the floor in the Karate scene and when Neo bends the walls after destroying Agent Smith. I'm not saying that the room shakes or that you feel waves of bass pounding you, just that the effects are definitely clear and audible. The mains seem kind of short and should probably be on small stands to elevate the tweeters to ear level, again important to any setup, not just the Fluance. Any speaker can benefit from proper placement, these are no different. What does this totally subjective review mean? In my personal opinion the Fluance AV-HTB 5 speaker set is an economical entry level system . . . I think they are some of the best speakers available for that amount of money."
