  1. Still solid after a year… needs better tonearm / counterweight 2 people found this helpful
    Overall Performance

Overall, for price point and performance, this is a solid plug and play bundle brand new. I’ve listened to 400-500 albums on the RT85 in about a year. Initial thoughts - I went with the Nagaoka because I prefer the low end enhancement… and I upgraded the cartridge to a Nagaoka MP-300 (needs counterweight and tonearm bridge adjustments). As a system: Nagaoka MP-300 (stylus and cart), RT85, PA10, Ai81 Tower Speakers. The MP-110 is lacking, and if you don’t foresee yourself upgrading, I recommend going with the Ortofon. I recommend replacing the 110 with a 200 stylus - don’t bother with the 200 cartridge, as the cost for quality upgrade isn’t worth it, and it plugs readily into the 110 cart. For the cost, the PA10 functions wonderfully. The Ai81s are magnificent, with multiple inputs and Bluetooth - these suckers are powerful - my neighbor can hear them in his garage (approximately 100 feet between houses), and neighbor across the street can hear on driveway (approximately 200 feet). The speakers properly handle the separation provided by the MP-300 and the PA10 still handles it well, all things considered. If you ever plan to upgrade the cartridge, the tonearm / bridge / counterweight setup needs tweaking. My only recommendation would be to develop a top end tonearm setup that can handle slightly heavier carts - I needed about 25 more grams of capability on the counterweight and had to lower the tonearm bridge - the bridge is easy, but I recommend Fluance selling some slightly heavier counterweights or further developing the tonearm to appropriately handle a heavier counterweight. Otherwise, for a plug-and-play excellent system at $1000-1500 new-in-box, I’d recommended this as the way to go if starting brand new. Still possible to build a great system through pickups and finds, but this gets you going at not a high entry cost for a quality experience.

  2. Lovely unit but…. 2 people found this helpful
    Overall Performance

Looks great, sounds fabulous. But the RCA cables and the speaker wire were far too short for my needs. I phoned Fluance to ask if I could buy longer wires and cables from them. They said no. So I bought stuff from Amazon, hoping it’s the right stuff. Then I get an email from Fluance…how would i like to buy 50ft of cable wire. Grrrrrrrr….
