I was looking for a pair of speakers that would fill a large, finished basement, which is where I listen to music. I am fairly picky about sound quality, but I did not want to spend a lot of money. I decided to take a chance on these, and I have been quite impressed with their sound quality. My system consists of a Yamaha receiver (100 w/ch), an NAD CD player, and a Project Carbon turntable (yes, I am old enough that I have a lot of records.) I tried these out with all types of music -- classic rock, alternative rock, reggae, blues, jazz, and classical -- and they really do a great job of handling everything. They put out plenty of bass, so there is no need for a powered subwoofer.I found that, as with most speakers, placement is very important. I had them near the wall, in a corner, and the bass was a bit too "boomy." I moved them out of the corner and away from the wall about a foot, and the sound is much more balanced. With a good quality CD or record, it sounds like the musicians are playing right in the room. Sound reproduction is very accurate, and I can clearly hear individual instruments.These speakers are not just a great value; they are great speakers! -Verified purchase from Fluance trusted store.
