In my 40s now, I've only owned two turntables in my life, both bought used but solid, reliable performers—a sub-DJ level Stanton and a similar Gemini more recently. Finally got tired of balancing the tone arm using washers due to the missing counterweight and decided it was time for a solid, decent, reliable turntable—and time for a new one!
This Fluance RT81 was strongly reviewed by The Wirecutter and let me tell you it is a solid, good-feeling machine. It feels substantial, the tonearm is beautiful, the glossy wood is not ostentatious but appears almost black from across the room (I was worried about this a little). I burned the motor in for a day as recommended. I actually haven't spun any records yet (I know, weird to write a review this way) but wanted to offer some initial thoughts on build quality. I think I'll be happy here.
