Great design sounds great love my fluance

This is my first time owning a Fluance turntable RT80 and was pleasantly surprised at the price and performance and the build of the product. It was also easy to assemble and set up. It was a big step up from my old turntable.

I finally decided to play vinyl records again after so many years of enjoying digital music (CDs, Mini Discs, WAV format, etc.). I used to have turntables way back in the 80's and have given them away a long time ago when CD's became more popular. I still mostly listen to my collection of CDs up to now and I got a turntable just to have one and enjoy the whole process of putting the record on the turntable and lifting the tonearm to your vinyl record.
I am impressed with the looks of my RT80 considering its price. But I am really disappointed and bothered with its inconsistent speed. I only have 33 1/3 RPM records and as I play them, I would clearly hear that the speed goes faster and sometimes slower, this is especially noticeable when I play my jazz albums. Because of this, I measured the speed of my turntable using an app on my phone, it varies from 33.1 to 33.9 within the duration while the app is measuring the speed, this is what really annoys me. Honestly, I do not mind if it is not exactly 33 1/3 but at least stay in one speed more or less. Playing pop or rock albums, it is less noticeable.
For my purpose I will keep it, but I am really disappointed. -
set up was easy, and plays nice.

I could not be happier with my decision to buy this turntable. The sound is excellent and its well built. At this price point, its a winner.

Pro:
Great sound on this model. I loved that it was easy to set up with a little help from the Fluance setup video on Youtube.
Con:
Finger print magnet, so be aware of that. -
Outstanding quality and attention to detail! The meticulous packaging alone was a testament of the dedication to customer service. The sound quality is unbelievable. Best of all, it's Canadian!

very impressed with craftmanship

The turntable was fairly easy to assemble. The manual was clear and concise. Balancing the lever arm does require passing the eye-test, but I don't see a way around that.
I did initially have some trouble getting the turntable to play on my speakers (it sounded extremely faint and was coming from the turntable itself for awhile), but after talking with an extremely helpful customer support representative, I was able to figure the issue out (Thanks Sean!). -
Great customer service and fast free shipping! Got it the next day! Will be changing the stylus on it soon thought!

It is very easy to setup. Sound quality is excellent. The tone arm is well constructed. Do prepare to use a tracking force gauge since the counter weight is not too accurate. I set it to 1.75g and The gauge show 2g tracking force. I also check the balance of the platter with a turntable record weight that have a level on top. Another adjustment was the cartridge alignment, the sound open up a bit more after I have made it. The only adjustment I have not done was the blank record test for anti-skate. The thing I would like to see is better material for the undercover enclosure, not that I am fuzzy about it but it will help on the resonance. Another thing I can think of is to add some dampening material to the turntable platter, I spray flex-o-seal on another turntable platter and it actually works wonder and cut down the ring. Also lots of budget audiophile would bypass the phono preamp but I turn it on and line it up with a tube buffer and it works pretty good. I can’t wait to try an upgraded cartridge on it and see if the sound improve some more although it's pretty good as it. I got a refurbished one and it was packaged like new. Saved some money so I will to put towards an upgraded cartridge. One last thought, it would be nice if the feet for the turntable are adjustable.Update: I throw in a Shure M97xE, align it and set the the tracking force weight to recommended 1.75g. Wow! Totally rocks!!! You do need a tracking force gauge to do the tracking force adjustment since the counter weight is not quite heavy enough to get to the balance tone arm. You can get a gauge for less than 20 dollars. With that in mind, I would say skip the RT81, get this and use the money saved to get an awesome cartridge like Shure, Ortofon, Grado etc.

It’s beautiful! Sounds great as is, but is still upgradable. Great way to listen to quality vinyl records the way they should sound without breaking the bank.

Would highly recommend this for beginners or even intermediate enthusiasts. Would say watch a setup video on youtube found that helpful more than just the manual.

FAQs
Fluance turntables do not include built in speakers.
To use a Fluance turntable, connect it to a home theater receiver or amplifier for use with passive speakers, or connect it to a set of powered speakers such as the Ai40 Powered Bookshelf Speakers.
If your receiver or speakers do not have a specific PHONO input or integrated preamp, RT80 and RT81 both include an internal preamp for quick and easy setup.
An amplifier is only needed if you’re connecting the turntable to passive speakers such as the Signature Series Bookshelf Surround Speakers.
If you’re looking for an option without a separate amplifier, the Ai40 Powered Bookshelf speakers fit the bill.
With the Ai40, all you need to do is connect the included RCA cables to the speakers, turn on the internal pre-amp and you’re ready to listen to the music the way it was meant to be heard.
If you’re using an amplifier without a phono input, or some powered speakers such as our Ai40 model, you will need to use the preamp by sliding the switch to the “LINE” position.
The tonearm of the RT80 and RT81 model turntables is compatible with cartridges from 3.5 grams to 6.5 grams in weight.
