A am very happy with this turntable ... from its beautiful look to the warm sound. the blue ortofon cartridge gives. The only minor flaw that I see is that the tone arm takes too long to lift at the end of the record. I hope that the stylus isn't being damaged. I still give it 5 stars anyway.

Easy set up, beautiful finish and high quality components. Unbeatable value, what’s not to like

I purchased an RT85 after they finally came back in stock. It had a very noisy back foot. Any movement of the turntable caused this foot to make an annoying creaking sound. I returned it under the 30 day refund policy. I then purchased a RT84 and it has the same defective noisy back foot. Since the RT84 has the lighter aluminum platter rather than the heavy acrylic platter, the back foot is not as noisy. After posting my experience on Fluance Turntable Facebook page, I learned other owners have experienced the same issue with their reference model turntables. This is obviously a design flaw that Fluance needs to address. Aside from the foot issue, the turntable sounds great. I upgraded from an RT81 and with the Ortofon Blue cartridge, the difference in sound is like night and day. After one week of owning the RT84, I have no plans to return it.

The RT84 looks and sounds great. I have the updated version with the 2M Blue and metal platter. Overall this table has quality features, components at a very fair price. Like the ease of being able to switch cartridges without fuss. Also allows for use of your choice of RCA cables. Sound is excellent, allow time for the 2M Blue to break-in.

Beautifully finished and exquisite sound!

Absolutely thrilled with this turntable way more than I dared hoped for

This turntable is the perfect middle ground for someone who's just getting into collecting vinyl or for a more seasoned audiophile. As a newcomer, myself, I originally purchased a competitor's TT but I noticed that it had a somewhat filtered sound in the high frequency range. After some research I became aware that it was the built-in pre-amp that wasn't providing a clear signal path, even when bypassed. The online community's solution was the open it up and physically remove the pre-amp. Not wanting to perform this "surgery" on a brand new TT, I decided to return it and upgrade. I saw a lot of glowing reviews of the Fluance RT81 but once I saw the Reference models don't have a built in pre-amp, I intrigued. The fact that it also comes with an Ortofon 2M Red AND acrylic platter, I was sold. Had it for a couple weeks now and I couldn't be happier. I attached my own head shell with an AT-VM540ML cartridge and this TT just sounds amazing! Had a friend of mine stop over and he walked in the door, thought I was listening to a CD. Of the TT is a small piece of the puzzle as pre-amp, power amp and speakers will effect your overall sound, the old rule of garbage in, garbage out stands and the RT84 assures that you'll be inputting a high quality signal to your sound system.

FAQs
Based on the popularity of the RT85 and feedback from our users, We are relaunching our RT84 Reference Series Turntable with a twist! Instead of receiving an acrylic platter and Ortofon 2M Red, we will now be offering them with the aluminum platter and Ortofon 2M Blue! With this upgrade, we are also happy to say that the price will remain the same as it was previously so you can enjoy the sonic brilliance of the 2M Blue with the option to upgrade your platter in the future.
An amplifier is only needed if you’re connecting the turntable to passive speakers such as the Signature Series Bookshelf Surround Speakers.
If you’re looking for an option without a separate amplifier, the Ai40 Powered Bookshelf speakers fit the bill.
With the Ai40, all you need to do is connect the included RCA cables to your preamp, then to the speakers and you’re ready to listen to the music the way it was meant to be heard.
If you intend to use your Reference series turntable with powered bookshelf speakers such as our Ai40 model, a preamp will be required.
The preamp will boost the signal to line level (similar to a headphone jack) so you can play it on speakers with RCA or AUX inputs.
If you have a home theater or stereo receiver/amplifier, you will need a preamp if the amplifier does not have a PHONO input. If you have a PHONO input, you may have a preamp already built in. Be sure to refer to the manufacturer’s specifications or manual for confirmation!
This design choice was made with a number of factors in mind. The main reason was to separate electronics from the turntable’s signal path to maintain the purity of the analog signal. Many listeners also like to customize their listening experience and choose specific components such as preamps based on unique sonic qualities. Using separate components also allows for optimization of cartridge and phono stage compatibility. If you upgrade your cartridge in the future, you can pair with an optimal phono preamp to maximize performance and achieve the sound profile you desire. !
