  1. a major purchase for me 0 people found this helpful

Audiophiles call these budget speakers, They were a major purchase for me. I read every review I could find and finally decided to spend my hard earned cash to buy them. I’ve no regrets about this purchase. I would have bit the bullet and bought these years ago had I known what I was missing. They are worth the scrimping and saving I had to do to buy them. Design: This is what got me to buy this speaker. Each speaker has two separate chambers. The lower section of the speaker is a ported chamber with a down firing woofer with two mid ranges and a silk dome tweeter in the sealed upper section. I am bi amping these with a Sony 7.2 receiver. They are tall, narrow, and deep. Tall and heavy, Might not be good in homes with toddlers or rowdy people. Though the floor spikes do a good job of anchoring each speaker to my carpeted floor. Honestly they do seem to sit pretty solid. Appearance: IMHO the best looking pieces of furniture in the house. Visitors unfailingly comment on how good they look. With a touch of furniture polish they just glow. Front piano black finish is mirror like and the mahogany wrap on the body is just stunning. Wife had reservations at first due to the size, but has come to love them. These speakers blend well in my room, but they aren’t inconspicuous. They stand out in a good way. Sound: I didn’t know what quality speakers sounded like until I heard these. The sound just envelopes me, the down firing woofers give a large sound stage. Bass is clean, not boomy. The mids and highs are clear. Watching movies, the dialogue and effects are clear and crisp. Listening to music brought a tear to my eye. I’m hearing details I only heard through headphones before. They are sensitive to placement, the closer to a wall they are the more bass they put out. I have mine in corners about 18” from the walls pointing towards our easy chairs. Sometimes I don’t realize how loudly I’m playing them because they sound so clear. Other Thoughts: Ain’t no good video reviews on these speakers. The written review by Audioholics is very thorough and finally convinced me to buy them. I’ve also read every review on amazon and several pro reviews before purchasing these. I’m running these as stereo speakers biamped through a Sony STRDH770 7.2 receiver. I own a doublewide mobile home with an open floor plan and these speakers fill the house with sound. Apartment or city dwellers might have issues as these can put out some volume. Thank god I’m a country boy :<)

Remarkable speakers- the mids are truly amazing. I am listening to Dark Side of the Moon-passages I know very well and new information comes in with such clarity, bass is so smooth! My amp is an old Rotel and it drives the system beautifully. I have listened to a lot of set ups over time and will say that these speakers exceeded expectation by quite a margin. They are connected to the Fluance 12' sub. and the sub is connected to my amp. For the first time I also hooked up my Mac as a CD player, and I can now control the set up remotely with the little Apple remote. - Verified Store

Updated and rewrote review Oct. 2017. It’s still all love. Audie. Audiophiles call these budget speakers, They were a major purchase for me. No regrets, none at all. There is a 30 day FREE return window and a LIFETIME warranty on these speakers through Fluance. They’re very well built, I doubt I’ll have to use it.Design: This is what got me to buy this speaker. Each speaker has two separate chambers. The lower section of the speaker is a rear ported chamber with a down firing woofer, the top sealed chamber has two mid ranges and a silk dome tweeter. They are tall, narrow, deep, and heavy. Might not be good in homes with toddlers or rowdy people. Though the floor spikes do a good job of anchoring each speaker to my carpeted floor. Honestly they do sit pretty solid. I used 12 awg wire (overkill, but cheap on sale), and banana plugs for connectors (recommended). I had to expand the plugs on the banana plugs so they fit tightly into the speakers.Appearance: The front piano black finish is mirror like and the mahogany wrap on the body looks great. You won’t mistake them for real wood veneer, but the quality is evident. They certainly aren’t inconspicuous, they really stand out. These speakers look sweet in my home. Wife approved, the sound clinched it.Sound: I’d describe the sound as warm, with a slight empasis on the mid bass. The down firing woofer makes for a large sound stage. Bass is clean, tuned for my taste (“ classic rock” ). The silk dome tweeter and the dual 6” mids blend well. They have a unique sound. On Ted Nugents riffs, I could hear the notes moving up and down the speaker. Tom Petty, Pink Floyd, Adele Sound incredible.Watching movies, the dialogue and midrange are clear and crisp and the woofers can shake things. They have an awesome soundstage. I have mine in corners about 18” from the walls pointing towards our easy chairs. These are sensitive to placement. Putting them in corners as compared to in front of a wall, changes the sound dramaticly. Corner placement reflects more bass into the room. Give yourself options on where to put them. Your taste may vary from mine..Other Thoughts:Ain’t no good video reviews on these speakers. The written review by Audioholics is very thorough and finally convinced me to buy them.
