Alex Hernandez Reviews the XL8F Reference Tower Speakers
"Overall, the sound these loudspeakers produce is just beautiful and beastly. They handle music amazingly well, but they also make movies sound stellar, along with games and TV."

ive had them for 6 yrs they rock. i even miswired one speaker ran it for a yr full blast to drown out neighbour then fixed it . it still pounds and is clear as a belljeff r 5
After having these for 4-5 weeks, I am not happy with these. The speaker treble has a harshness and raspiness to them. The mid-range seems to miss part of the transition between the treble and mids. The bass is present and goes low, but doesn't have the 'punch' I have come to expect. It just doesn't hit, more rolls. I have previous Fluance speakers, that are 5-6 years old and I use them every day - the XL7S bookshelves and Signature centers. So when I was looking to upgrade my 15 year old Energy towers (before Klipsch purchased then), top of my list was Fluance. I watched a bunch of online videos and saw everyone singing praises. I believed it given my prior experience with Fluance speakers, so after listening to a bunch of options and even trying another brand (heco) in house, I pulled the trigger. These are 'okay'. But while watching movies and playing video games (in 7.1) I would notice odd sounds from time to time. It was hard to put my finger on it. So I started auditioning music with a more discerning ear. Female vocalists and acoustic guitar seem to make the issues extremely pronounced. You get crackling from both speakers and raspiness that makes it tough to listen to. I go and play the same source on Energy, Jamo, Mordaunt Short, and even some vintage define technology; no issues. Either a bad pair of speakers or my ears just don't like the new tweeters and woofers. The final straw was when I was driving my truck listening to a song I had just listened to on these towers and it sounded better in my truck than it did in my home theater. Spent the last 3 hours swapping between my old energy towers and these fluance towers and while Fluance has some benefits over the Energy's - the older Energy speakers just produce a better sound, sound stage and don't become fatiguing.Brady B 2
I have never had the opportunity to buy floorstanding speakers because of space limitations but oh boy… Fantastic speakers! Bought these and the center and bookshelves for my new finished basement. Still breaking them in but spent a solid 6 hours listening to these alone and their range and richness is noticeable right out of the box. Even the low end these perform well. If you are only able to have 2 speakers in you setup you would be well served by these.H.N. 5
Pretty much everything I expected, still only 5ish hours in so possibly some change on the horizon. But at this price point there is literally no competition.Mike D 4
The outer packaging was a little rough due to handling but the product was so impeccably packed they arrived pristine. They sound amazing and look just as good. A welcome upgrade from my bookshelf speakers.Tim E. 5
Love them, I haven’t enjoyed music since the 70’s.John J 5
The XL8F speakers are awesome. Impressive value at $760 (CAD)/pair. These arrived in great condition due to superb packing materials. I was impressed with the feel and quality of the speaker terminals, the isolation floor spikes, and the magnetic front grills. I chose the option to bi-wire the speakers to my amp. I find these easy on my ears and they provide a nice crisp high-end sound that is not in your face, a detailed mid-range and a nice warm low end. These staged extremely well in my space. I chose the lovely finished natural walnut that looks superb and fits so well with my decor. I did reach out to Fluance's customer service desk on shipping and received prompt replies and helpful support from Julie. The bottom line is that the XL8F speakers are exceptional value for money, look wonderful, sound great and customer service is good.Graeme 5
Great bang for buck speakers. I'm very happy with them.Dave C 5
8' sub gave disappointing bass, speakers are bigger than I thought. Glue on one of the drivers came loose. Good customer service.Russell D S 3
Using as a 2.0 speaker system for music with a tube amp for authentic/vintage sound. I have an existing sub woofer hooked up from a different speaker system but don't even turn it on... The down firing woofer in this speaker does an excellent job! From what I have heard I don’t think there is anything out there at this price point, this quality/sound, and size. Would buy again!!! One of my speakers did come in damaged but Fluance's customer service took care of it with no issues.Scott G 5
I received my new XL8F speakers in July 2021 in mint and perfect condition. So these comments are made after 5 months of evaluation.Stephane 5
Although at first glance the look is reminiscent of my old XL7F, the new XL8F towers have a lot of upgraded details. Better looking drivers with a tighter grouping, cleaner look without visible hardware and revised terminals. All nice visual upgraded touches on an already stunning design at this price range.
Performance wise : Better sound signature, more quantity and quality on the frequency response extremities without loosing the smooth mid response.
This is exactly what I was hoping for, bright fine very high frequencies and better lower bass (up to the standard of good 8 inches driver).
They are really able to play music without a sub and this was not the case IMO with the XL7f, now I only use my excellent SVS sealed sub on some occasion (and was seriously recalibrate for the new towers)
I also think the 87db sensitivity seems conservative since these speakers are easy to drive. (with my 80w/ch Harman-Kardon stereo receiver)
My XL7F where very nice for the price but felt a bit of a let down audio wise IMO.
My new XL8f are excellent all around without a single weak spot and I would buy them again without hesitation.
Kuddos to the team who did an excellent job on the revised product.
I’m totally satisfied with my new XL8f towers speakers and I had a stellar costumer support from Brent at Fluance who made several emails to answer my questions prior to my purchase.
Amazing... Simply amazing... Crisp clear highs and Punch through mids... The down firing driver sends enough bass to rattle my living room... No joke the reference series all together is worth every penny.Matthew 5
I am very happy with these speakers thus far. Shipping was right on time and they arrived in great condition. Build quality is very good for the price range. I have them paired with a new Denon stereo receiver with 100 w per channel and that's more than enough to drive them. I am currently using them in a fairly large section of my basement and they sound great. Plan is to move them into a bedroom which will serve as my didicated music room. Would buy them again.Paul H. 5
Good value great sound build quality is also good.Vern W 5
