In short, these are great sounding, high quality speakers that are excellent value. I bought them on sale so they were a particularly good deal. I wish Fluance didn't bump their direct prices up a bit just so they could offer sales, but that's their marketing strategy for now... Before I bought the XL7Fs I was wondering how they sounded. The specs looked good but that never tells the whole story. I had borrowed a friend's Fluance speakers for a few years and replaced them with Polk Audio R30s a while ago when I had to give them back. I remember at the time the highs, mids, and lows of the Fluance speakers sounded better than their replacements. Now that I've had the XLF7s for two weeks I think I've broken them in and listened to them enough to offer a semi-objective review. I've used them almost exclusively for listening to music (but a few movies), only in stereo (no surround or centre channels), mostly without my powered subwoofer, and at moderate volumes. Imaging and clarity are very good. Voices sound rich, natural and in the room (subject to the recording quality). I'm sure if I compared them to speakers costing $1000 more there would be further subtle improvements, but the XL7Fs sound so good, I can't justify paying that much more for a negligible improvement, or paying the same amount for something that sounds inferior. These speakers are so good they allow me to hear subtle differences in how albums have been recorded and mastered. The bass response is full and (for the most part) smooth and probably go as low as the specs say. The bass goes so deep, there's almost no need for a subwoofer, although having one helps the extreme lows (5-string bass, low synth sounds, percussion hits) sound more punchy. The exception to the smooth bass response, and really the only flaw (more of a quirk) is a little bass boost around 200hz that stands out only when I listen for it. I'm guessing it's an artifact caused by the tuned bass port. Above and below this boost, the low frequencies are smooth and sound great. This little boost is subtle, not annoying, and only noticeable when I listen closely to a bass instrument note-by-note. I've thought of plugging the port to see if it makes a difference, but it's so minor, I can't be bothered. When I crank the volume (which, unfortunately isn't that often) the bass remains quite powerful and well-balanced in relation to the higher frequencies. Whatever distortion may be present at high volumes is lower than any distortion caused by the acoustics of my living room. Final things worth mentioning are: shipping was fast but the outer box was beat up. These look really nice and are nicely finished. There are no visible or audible flaws given they're made in China. I'd give them 5 stars if the bass response was 100% flawless (really making them indistinguishable from $$$$ speakers) and the shipping was a little more gentle.

  2. I was searching for a new pair of the Wharfedale s 0 people found this helpful

I was searching for a new pair of the Wharfedale sr1 surround speakers I have (had) on Amazon. One of the search results that I received was for the surround speakers in this package. The setup was reversed and they were a little larger so I went on about my buisness. I had just recently been to my Fathers house and reinstalled his home theatre system consisting of an Infinity Intermezzo system and was to be quite honest very jealous. I had a Yamaha sub sat/ Wharfedale system that was awesome, his just had that extra UMPH. So I stumbled upon these surround speakers on amazon, not the same, however I cannot buy the Wharfedales anymore. On a whim I forgot the surround speakers and purchased the 3.0 system on a Thursday. While thinking on friday I checked the website again and the bipole speakers were on sale for 99.00! I jumped on it and got them ordered. The shipments were two days apart. I received the mains and center on Monday and the surrounds on Tuesday. Got em all installed and ran Audessy on my Denon receiver and I will compare them head to head with my Dad's $12,000 speaker system anyday! When he goes he has promised me those speakers ...Maybe I will put them in the garage..LOL My Other system!

I love these speakers. The sound is absolutely amazing. I have them powerd bi amped which keeps the load at 8ohms on my receiver and they have crystal clear highs and the bass is really there. Playing a CD through the Blu-Ray player sounds incredible. I just ordered the center channel for watching TV and hope it sounds as good as the floorstanders. I don't really need it but I really love the speakers and had to add another.

  5. I just did good review on Amazon so here too.I've 0 people found this helpful

I just did good review on Amazon so here too. I've owned it for about 2 months now and I made no mistake with my choice on this products. I was initially looking for good used B&W speakers and other reputable brand but with my budget and the spec that I want it's limited available on the market what I was looking for. I recently got two Rotel bridged mono power amps which power rating at 150w output and wanted to feed each power amp to each speaker which set up was going to eliminate most of bookshelf speakers so my mains are only without a doubt floor standing loudspeakers. Actually, I never heard of Fluance brand until I started to do research my main speakers and when I found about it, for the price it was well fit and spec are just perfect for my need to hook up to my amps. When I did research no one was giving any negative feedback and that made up my mind to purchase this wonderful items. As I mentioned above, even used bookshelf one from B&W brand would cost more. This Flunce XL7F are $500 come a pair of price is less than used bookshelf but I not saying they are over priced. They are just high demand in used market, of cause floor standing type would be a lot higher. I do not want to call it a budget sp and not want to use words entry level sp, it's actually top on the line in Fluence products and it definitely deserve as excellent and well engineered products. When I first time saw these SP I could not believe how well crafted the cabinets are and all the material they put were really high graded. What I like about the design is they don't put so many crazy woofers at your sight but hide one at the bottom which 8" woofers down firing will reproduce tight, deep and accurate bass( Fluence described it sexiest bass, which sound nice to me really). Well, that will not bring the best sound from the look and sexiness so how about the sound? I have tried many kind of music rock, classical, techno, soul all play nothing come to short. When I listen Evanescence, it just assured me I bought a sweet but powerful speakers. Hayley Westenra song and angelic voice was just make me feel I was floating in the air or gliding in the valley what a natural sound. I listen a lot of Enigma, Linkin Park, old soft rock from 80's 90's, piano notes what a great sound with image that come to live. Can't remember everthing to write though. Yes, the true is it require good amplification so go ahead and choose good amp to drive out of it's best, especially to the music rather than home theater system. Preferably separate system will be the best at least in my case. Even saying max produced products can not be sold at this price, consider to shipping fee a lone it take a big chunk of cost to ratio selling price so I would like to give a lot of credit to the company's working hard and ahh life time warranty too so wish them well all the best. I hope it help everyone and Fluence will keep produce wonderful speakers and even innovate better in the future. Oh, be care with their spike legs it a little short so if you over twist it will come out and your heavy SP will loose balance and might fall so twist it slow, not over do.
